Have you use the baby seat belt provided by airlines to keep the baby on your lap? Is it better than car seat?

I have read that the airlines provide some sort of seat belt four babies riding on the mothers lap. How safe it is? Or should I use the car seat instead? Can you secure the car seat to the airplane seat the way it secured to the car? My daughter will be 10 months old. Thanks.

I have, and all it is is a lap belt connected to your seat belt that goes around her waist. It is not very safe. They only made me use it on take off and landing. I felt safer having my daughter in my arms, plus I breastfed most of the flight and my other option was to pay $1,000 to put her in her car seat. I would have had her in my lap to breastfeed her anyways (my flight was 7 hours). If the flight were any longer it might be nice to have a car seat especially because she’s 10 months. Mine was 3 months when we flew so she was pretty light and didn’t wiggle too much.
PS. The car seat goes in the same way as you’d put it in a car with a lap belt.

SYDNEY — If you had hoped to fly Qantas between Australia and New Zealand, you were out of luck. The national carrier grounded planes after a plume of ash from a Chilean volcano moved over the southern Pacific. But the suspension this past week didn’t leave the island nation entirely cut off: If you booked on Virgin Australia or Air New Zealand, your flight ran as scheduled for much of the week …
