fake safety ratings on 2009 VW bugs?!?!?
i drive a brand new 2009 VW bug–
im the first owner..
&& i recently got T-boned directly in the drivers door.
the car has normal airbags as well as side impact airbags.
when my parents bought me this car the sticker said “5 star side crash test safety rating.”
i was hit in the drivers door with a SUV.
from the drivers door up is completely messed up-smashed in and the impact broke the shocks and everything.
Im wondering why NONE of the air bags deployed.
could this be a fake safety rating?
a local body shop is fixing my car because most of the damage was from the drivers door up and not really anywhere else—the insurance did not total it.. even thought it was no where near driveable.
but im wondering if i should still feel as safe in my car knowing that the airbags may not work.
if you have side airbags they should deploy. Your accident may have been severe but not severe enough to deploy the bags. I doubt the rating is “fake” but keep in mind the safety rating are determined in a lab, not in the real world. There is no way they can test all types of crashes. The fact your car was hit that hard by a much larger car and you are still here to tell about it should speak well of your car.
