Moving to DC. Need current info for the safest areas to rent an apartment in (if anWhat would you like to ask?
Can someone give me info on specific good areas, apartment/community names, and even streets in DC to look for?
Ive heard nothing but horrible things about living directly in DC due to the crime and gangs, yet alot of upscale activities I do are right there. Just want to hear from people actually living there now and get some 2011 information. Everything I found on yahoo answers is old.
I am the upscale type, upper middle class, accustomed to high-end shopping, fine dining, luxury vehicles, and luxury living with lots of square footage at reasonable prices. But I live in the south where all of that is attainable and economical. The dollar doesnt go nearly as far in DC metro area.
All Im seeing are 1 bedroom boxes for $1800-2400 in Alexandria and up. So I was wondering if DC is cheaper and if there are any semi-upscale, non-millionaire, safe areas at all where I can get at least 1400 sq ft 2 bdrm.
What can you recommend or should I stay away from DC altogether?
Much of the action for young adults has moved out of DC. Arlington, in particular the corridor along the Metro Orange line (Rosslyn, Court House, Clarendon, Virginia Square, and Ballston) is filled with housing options including apartments and town houses, plus places for young adults to hang out (ethnic restaurants, bars, coffee places, etc.) Plus it’s a lot safer and nicer than in DC itself, with the benefit that you can be downtown to DC in about 10 minutes on Metro. You can even walk across the bridge into Georgetown.
