Is it true that america during the 20s 30s 40s?

was a safe and happy place. people had no need to lock cars or homes? everyone was friendly with each other? there was less drugs, swearing, and violence? and that people were more polite?

I was up and around in the 40s. We had no lock on our house, and we lived in Ocean Beach, near San Diego. I was allowed to ride my trike a few blocks to the beach and play there alone. Dad’s car had a toggle switch to turn it on, I never did see a key. We moved to Ogden Utah 1945, and we didn’t lock the house there either, there was no reason to. In 1950 we bought a farm and moved a long way from any city. The first I ever heard of drugs was in 1959. I never did see any or know anyone who had any knowledge of drugs. For a few years I thought it was prescription drugs. I didn’t even know what it was.

My friends and I didn’t swear, it was not something we heard much of.

I realize some of the big ghetto cities had problems clear back in the 40s and 50s, like San Francisco, but for most of the country it was like I describe. Generally moral decay occurs in cities long before it does in rural areas. In the 50s we could hitch hike all over the nation, and we did. Often times the first car to come would stop and give us a ride.
