What safety precautions have been taken in the fuel tanks of Boeing planes since TWA800 in 1996?
Just curious — I know that there has been a new AD by the FAA concerning this, but other than that, how safe would a similar Boeing plane be on a major American airline?
The TWA 800 crash was never really solved, but the most remote possibilities were explored in an attempt to determine the cause and prevent future accidents. As a result an AD was published and the operators of B-747 and other aircraft have complied. This aircraft carries millions of passengers and operates world-wide with an enviable safety record.
It is interesting to note that if your automobile was subjected to the same scrutiny that commercial aircraft are, you would not be able to drive it due to the maintenance involved.
