What is the best way to mail an expensive antique in for appraisal? How do you insure it?
I have a World War II era dagger that is worth a decent amount of money and several parties are interested in purchasing it from me. However, all parties want the dagger mailed to them for inspection and appraisal. My question is how do I protect myself from theft, damage, or loss in the mail? The parties I’m mailing the dagger to are reputable collectors and dealers so I feel relatively safe about who I’m sending it to but I would still like some kind of reassurance that if something were to happen that it wouldn’t be a complete loss for me.
try sending some crystal clear photos of the dagger, show it from all angles and get close ups of any markings that are visible, that should give a reputable collector enough of a view to determine if he wants to maybe split the cost of insurance, ofcourse the amount of insurance you pay is valued on the worth of the item that you send. also if youi do send it have delivered upon delivery they must sign a slip that they indeed did receive the item………….
Insurance for Antique Cars
People who own antique cars are generally passionate about them; their value cannot always be expressed in dollars but nevertheless they still need to be protected with an insurance policy. Fortunately there are antique car insurance companies who are able to provide the sort of cover an older car needs. By having a variety of auto insurance companies to choose from, the classic car owner can choose the right type of insurance for their needs; they are also more likely to get the policy at a competitive price.
Even commercial auto insurers are getting in the act with policies to protect antique cars; often called collector’s auto insurance, these plans meet the exact requirements of the vehicle to be protected. Operatives for these companies can take all the details of your car so they can tailor the policy to fit the car. Your level of cover will depend on how much you can afford but it is possible to lower this by arranging for your deductible to be raised above the minimum set by the insurer.
Benefits of Antique Car Insurance
One of the benefits of insuring your antique car through a large commercial insurer is the fact that they are reliable; these are usually old and trusted firms with a large customer base. Another benefit of using these large companies is they can provide cover for the owner’s everyday cars as well. Although there may be a price premium for antique car insurance with this type of company, the peace of mind it brings could be well worth the additional amount.
It is possible to use specialist auto insurers and often the premium is lower because this is the only type of insurance they provide; however, this might mean you will not be able to insure any other type of car with them. A number of independent insurance providers even specialize to the point where only a certain type of classic car is insured. To be on the safe side it is best to check out any insurance companies, especially the smaller ones so you can be happy in the knowledge that your premium money and antique car are not at risk.
