I would feel much safer if I could have a gun at work…?

I’m a 21 year old girl who works alone most of the time in a small office where we handle large sums of cash (check cashing, western union, money orders etc…). Normally, I only have help 1 day of the week. It isnt the best neighborhood and the shopping center is pretty small. I have considered registering a gun and keeping it on me while at work. Of course the owner wouldn’t approve- I’d do this without telling anyone. There has been a rash of robberies at places liek this in the area. Each time, the men had guns, but didnt use them. I would feel more secure if I had a firearm. I would need to be approved and then trianed before doing so, and I’d like to do it ASAP. What laws/ regulations do I need to check for? Any tips/ what do you think?

First, you need to find out about your local and state gun laws. Make sure you get the appropriate permits to buy and own a gun. You will probably need a concealled carry permit in addition to carry the weapon on your person legally. Call your sherif to get the details about aquiring these kind of permits. You will have to fill out some forms, have a background check done, and likely have to do a gun safety class for the concealled carry permit. Once you are on the up and up with the law and have your gun, talk to your employer about how you feel and if the company has any explicit policy about firearms in the workplace. If you have a well concealed gun, they’ll never know about it, but I’d be up front and honest about it anyways. They might install some extra security measures for you if they know that you intend to carry a gun around work, with the intent of making you feel safe enough not to need it.

The other thing you need to do is learn about is when and how you should use your firearm. Its not enough just to have it. You need to practice so you can actually hit a target and are comfortable shooting. You also need to be prepared mentally and emotionally to shoot and kill a person. You never want to pull a gun unless you intend to shoot. Trying to scare a person with a gun when you don’t have the guts to pull the trigger can quickly backfire on you.

Remember, there is no need to be a hero if all the robber wants is the store’s money. But if you feel like its your life or his, its time to take action.
