Narrow gun safe for JUST a single shotgun and some ammo, maybe a pistol too?
My husband would like to get a gun safe for the shotgun that we keep in our bedroom, but most of the safes on the market are huge and heavy and right away they hold 6, 8, 20 guns. All he needs is a narrow, 1′ wide safe that can accomodate a single shotgun, some ammo, and maybe a pistol. Ideally something with both a standard lock and a biometric fast-access lock or fast digital pin number entry.
Just 1′ wide so it can easily fit into a closet without gobbling up all the space.
He wants a safe so it’s ready to go if needed. Neither of us is comfortable with keeping it loaded and unsecured. There are no kids in the house, but it’s still our NRA safety training kicking in.
And FYI, the couple of times we’d had false alarms, we always call out and make sure “they” know we have a shotgun and are prepared to use it, hoping any intruder will just leave. It’s not like we start firing all over the place without warning! The safety’s still on almost all of the time.
In over 29 years in the business, I have yet to see a safe the dimensions you describe. The fact that these safes are 99% fire resistant lends to the fact that they have very thick sidewalls and doors, making one as small as you want unpractical to manufacture or produce. I have however seen a few built in gun safes that have and opening of about 14″ X 18″ (Door) and are 42-48″ deep. These would have to be custom built into a wall thicker than the standard 6″ thickness, or a “fake” wall built around the safe rather than the other way around. They are not cheap either and the safe I describe with labor/installation runs about $2K. May I suggest and electronic pistol safe built into the wall close to your bed instead. They will hold 3 handguns and clips, ammo etc and have push button rapid access code/button locks. These are the only options I know of that will allow you to use minimal space but easy access in an emergency. I have no idea where you live but I can give you a few safe companies that have these and do istallations. I have several of these myself.
