Honeywell Steel Fire Safe with Combination Lock

Honeywell Steel Fire Safe with Combination Lock

What is the fire retardant material used for household safes?

I locked my little brothers PS3 inside our home safe as punishment for not cleaning his room. He is a little insane so he decided to try and break it open with a sledgehammer. In the process of trying to smash it open he managed to get this grey material which is probably what keeps the contents inside the safe from melting air born and allover the basement which is where our heater is located. This gray substance has most likely been circulated throughout our house.

I was wondering if this grey material which looks like concrete is bad to breath in or harmful.

The safe is made by Brinks Home Security.

Thanks.

Different safes are made from different materials. Many are made from a type of fireboard with a solid steel core and something called “fire cladding”. You might find out more about yours at the Brinks site.
