Can a partially melted handgun be repaired?
My home burnt down some time ago and I had several handguns that were in a fireproof safe that wasn’t so fireproof. A couple of them got hot enough to only melt the grips and the plasic on them but still rendered them unoperable. How much heat could they stand? One is a Model 669 S&W 9mm and it got the worst which left only charred material and metal and the other was a 22 caliber browning pistol buck mark. The browning I have disassembled down to the frame and trigger mechanism I need a gunsmith to finish the dissasembly and replace a few parts and reassemble. Being as these guns have had considerable damage done to them I really don’t want to spend alot of money on them. The Browning looks like it can be fixed really easy with the right knowledge. Any input or gunsmith suggestions would be much appreciated.
Jeff makes good points. Yes it can be done but,to what expense. A used Buckmark goes for around 125-150.00 around here..in real good condition. To refinish a pistol will run you over 100.00 and more if its done right. Buy another. The heat on all the small parts in that gun will require them to be replaced. That’s the 411….its you call. Sorry for your loss.
