Car Safest Place Thunderstorm

Why are cars a very safe place to be during a thunderstorm?
Rubber is an insulator, and metal is a conductor. The tires make the path to ground high resistance compared to a building or a tree, and if lighting does strike the current flows along the outside of the body of the car, and the occupants are shielded from the current.

NB: A Faraday cage is only useful at high frequency, when the current is restricted to the surface of the conductor. That’s not the case in a lightning strike, Elmo.
