Car Seat Safest Position

Safest car chair positioning?

I have been having a dispute with my parents about the correct positioning of the seat in my car. I drive a small car, a tiburon, it is very low to the ground and doesn’t have the best peripheral vision. I have my seat set as far back as it goes and set at a 135 degree angle. My parent claims that this is unsafe because I cannot see as well directly in front of me. However, I am 6′ and have no problem seeing directly in front of my car’s hood. Switching from a 135 to a 90 degree angle gives me noticeably less peripheral vision, my parents response to this was “move your head more then” It seems this is less safe than the benefits of sitting at a 90 degree angle.

My question is what are the pros and cons of each seat angle and which would you recommend and for what reasons

The closer to upright, the better.

You are deluding yourself about the peripheral vision, the angle of the seat wont affect your eyesight. But laying the seat back as you say does interfere with your ability to turn your head to check the blind spots as you are supposed to do. It can also make you feel more relaxed and reduce your attentiveness. It will also lead to backache, as gravity is pulling the natural curve of your in the wrong direction. Standing the seat upright, or nearly so, will correct all the above.
