why should the gov’t bail out the auto industry?

the us auto industry is hurt, but they put it upon themselves. why should the gov’t bail them out?
after the first 25 billion dollar loaned to 3 companies one company gm just released a new performance sports car that doesnt show or make any profits. available in only limited numbers, the car cost 100,000+ to purchase and probably millions upon millions to develop and design, maybe even billions. why did gm develop this car that doesnt show any profit when they couldve design something for the everyday consumer a solid gas saving safe and reliable car. very irresponsible, very bad investments, and very poor decision making so why should the govt shouldnt bail them out with another 25 billion if they continue to make these decisions?

They shouldn’t bail out any of them! First it was the mortgage companies and wall street and now the auto companies. Today I heard Circuit City wants a bailout too! I say let them fail. This is a capitalist republic right? So if your business cannot survive, it must fail. They failed because of their massive greed and mass de-regulation. Tough luck.

Cars Most Wanted By Teen Drivers

The safest car for a teen driver and the car they might want are two very different things. Their lack of financial independence often means they end up driving whatever is given to them. Often this will be the car handed down from a parent or grandparent. However, the thought of a freshly qualified driver being given the keys to the family saloon will cause most parents to break out in a cold sweat.

Teenagers themselves are no different to adults. They are just as likely to eulogise over a McLaren F1 as Jeremy Clarkson is or dream of skipping school for a day like Ferris Bueller and going for a spin behind the wheel of a Ferrari Spyder 250GT. As with adults, the dream car will usually remain a dream, or at least something they will have to defer to a later date.

For the majority of teen drivers the high cost of insurance will end up determining what car they go for. Statistics show that vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens, accounting for more than one in three deaths in this age group. Teenagers are four times more likely to be in a crash than older drivers and three times as likely to die in one.

This is perhaps why some seemingly counter-intuitive thinking may be for the best. From a safety point of view, it is best that younger drivers are given a newer car as they are often better equipped should a crash occur. Not only are they more likely to have important items such as side airbags, but also technology that can assist new drivers such as stability control and anti-lock brakes. All of these can prove crucial should an accident occur.

As a parent, safety should dictate the vehicle choice and over-ride any concerns a teenager may have with power, looks or the obligatory sound system. Cars such as the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, non-turbo Subaru or Nissan Altima series are all cars which the Consumer Report recommends for young drivers due to their excellent safety standards. Not only are these cars safe but their sleek styling means that young drivers will not turn pink with embarrassment when they get behind the wheel.

It may also prove worthwhile for newly qualified drivers to take advanced driving lessons. These advanced lessons will go beyond the basic requirements of their driving test and will teach them more about the proper control of a car. An educated driver is a safer driver.

Whatever the car you choose, safety should be the main priority. After all, should the worst happen and a teen driver be in a crash it’s easy to replace a windshield or a car, but a young life is irreplaceable.
