Is it illegal to carry a firearm in a national park?
I was planning on putting in a couple hundred miles of nice, beautiful northwestern mountain bike trails next summer, like the Maah Daah Hey in North Dakota. But anyway, I was going to ride Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, South and North Dakota and possibly Colorado. I live in Wisconsin, the only predator animals we worry about here are wolves, but there’s about 650 in the entire state. I’m kinda nervous about the grizzly bears, bighorns, mountain lions, moose and any other big animals that would try to run me down so I was thinking about bringing my .44 mag revolver (that can take down almost all of the above in two or three good shots). I know it would probably never happen, but I figured better safe then sorry y’know? I don’t think I’d have a very good chance against an 800 pound bear bare handed. If worst comes to worst I would just carry a lighter and hairspray or pepper spray.
Your concerns are legitimate. The ‘carry’ laws vary from state to state. California is ALL f’d up, unless you’re an illegal, then you can get away with ANYTHING! Colorado and Montana USED to be conservative and carrying a weapon was normal. NOW, they’ve been taken over by the ‘progressives’, tree huggers, people that have changed all that was good into SNAFU!
A month or so ago (it was on the news), a guy who lived in Colorado, bought and owned his weapons legally there, split from his wife and went to his mom’s in NH. The man was distraught, his mom called the cops & said he owned a gun. According to Colorado law, where the man had come from, the gun was stored, dismantled, in the trunk of his car, the clip was stored in a box in a different location of the car. That is how a weapon can be lawfully carried in a vehicle in Colorado and California. However, in NH, apparently that is NOT their law! The man, who never touched his weapon, didn’t reassemble his weapon, everything was stored separately in his locked vehicle, is facing 15 years in prison. Yep, that’s FIFTEEN YEARS for owning a weapon!!!!
You SHOULD have a weapon with you on your outings, however, make SURE that you know what the laws are from state to state! They DO vary! I live in a state where I have a pistol on me @ ALL times, visible to every onlooker! The only time I have to remove my weapon is when I go in govt. buildings, like Game & Fish, or DMV.
