Good ways to hide money at home?
My cousins are talking about their mom always stealing their money, so they’d like to be able to keep it away from her so they can save it. The problem is their mom freely walks into their rooms all the time and takes whatever she wants, she also cleans their rooms while they’re gone without them knowing she’s going to… They are 15 and 13.
I thought about getting them one of those really cool diversion safes that look like pop cans or pringles tubes but I figured their mom would decide she either wants some and figures out the secret or thinks it’s empty and just tosses it in the trash.
Any Ideas?
I like the idea of you opening each of them a savings account under YOUR address, so that the statements come to you. That way they can save for a while and turn the cash over to you to deposit for them.
But I also understand they want to keep “some” cash on hand.
So… make sure they convert their holdings to paper cash at every opportunity, then have them put it in an envelope, and hide it somewhere OUT of their bedroom(s).
For instance… in a long unused cookbook in the back of the pantry… in a book that’s been hanging out in the living room “forever”… during the school year, in their school locker… taped to the bottom of a living room end table… tucked into a framed photograph… taped to the back of the underside of their bathroom sink… in a CD or DVD case… tape it inside a textbook’s bookcover… tape it to the underside of their television or computer CPU or stereo… in a piece of unused luggage in the garage, tape it to the back of the guest room’s bed’s headboard, etc.
Then, to make sure Mum doesn’t look too hard for their stash… every once in a while they should leave a $5 bill in their sock drawer or some place else Mum is sure to find it.
Hope this helps,
TX Griff
