Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010
Dewitt, NY – March 29, 2010: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration‘s (FCMSA) new assessment program will be significantly different than SafeStat, the current evaluation system.
The aim of the new program, called Comprehensive Safety Analysis (SCA) 2010, is to help the FCMSA and its state partners contact more carriers and drivers, to use improved data to better identify high-risk carriers and drivers, and to apply a wider range of interventions to correct high-risk behaviors. The ultimate goal of the program is to reduce the occurrence of large truck and bus crashes.
In the current issue of Welding & Gases Today, the journal of the Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA), David L. Potts, director of safety & operations for the American Trucking Association, describes the new program. Of particular significance, CSA 2010 will use all safety-based violations found during roadside inspections to measure a motor carrier’s safety performance—not just out-of-service violations as has been the case in the past. CSA 2010 also will have noticeable driver-related impacts. If deficiencies are driver-related, the inspector may choose to look at the driver, rather than the vehicle.
Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 outlines what motor carriers can do to prepare for CSA 2010 in Welding & Gases Today, the leading trade journal for the welding, welding equipment, industrial gases, medical gases and specialty gases industry. You can read it at www.WeldingAndGasesToday.com.
