Why Are Biometric Gun Safes So Super?

Biometrics Gun Safes

A biometrics gun safe is the way of the future. Why is that? Well, biometrics technology is advancing so quickly today that things which seemed impossible a few years ago are slowly making their way into our homes, and at prices the average joe can afford.

The most prevalent type of biometrics gun safe is the type that reads your fingerprint. This means that you touch the sensor and the internal smarts of it will open the door – if you are one of those whose fingerprints are stored in its memory.

Gone are the days of remembering codes, combinations or fumbling for keys. Now just touch the sensor and get access to your handgun or other valuables immediately – even in the dark.

Biometrics gun safes are relatively small. Some hold one gun and some are large enough to hold several hand guns. Some of these safes are also small enough to hide in a drawer, in the closet or in the wall if you so desire.

Additionally, these are often referred to as gun safes, but in reality they are simply biometrics safes. You can store anything in them that you want. You don’t have to store guns in them. In fact, there is nothing really about the safes that make it a gun safe. You can store valuables, jewelry, ammo, prescriptions or important papers. Anything you want.

They are referred to as biometrics gun safes because 1.) you usually want to hide a hand gun and keep it safe, but 2.) you want quick access to it in time of an emergency. So the best solution for both of these problems is a safe that can be opened quickly. Hence, the biometric safe.

These gun safes come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some safes open like a book, others have a split door where each open outwards, and some simply have a lid like a regular box. They are all mostly well constructed and sturdy, using high quality materials.

As mentioned above, your fingerprint is stored in the internal memory. Now, different manufacturers will have different sizes of memory for its fingerprint storage. Some manufacturers will only allow you a few, say 10, as others will allow up tp 50 and some even offer higher than that.

You may wonder why such a large fingerprint storage is important. There are two main reasons. One is that most people recommend you program your own fingerprint a number of different times. The sensor will read your finger but if you have your finger positioned slightly askew, it may not recognize it as being the same one you stored in its memory. So it is advised that you store your fingerprints a number of times. Each time you store it, move it a little so you get a number of different “angles” of it. Some even store different fingers. The second reason for so many fingerprints in storage is to allow others to be able to get into the safe also. You would store their fingerprints the same as yours.

So the bottom line is that these biometrics gun safes are becoming more and more popular. More companies are coming out with new ones or revising their old ones, and all the while, the prices are dropping and becoming more affordable. Currently, there are many biometric gun safe manufacturers on the market and are quite good. These include Barska, Gunvault, Locksaf and more.
