What do you think of Gary Fisher Sugar 3 + Plus Mountain Bike Bicycle ?

Hi,
I’m new to the mountain biking. This is my first bicycle as an adult. I haven’t ridden a mountain bike since I was a teenager which is 12 years ago. The mountain bike I had as a teenager was a Kmart bike. This time around I picked up a used 2003 Gary Fisher Sugar 3+ which is my first ever nice bicycle. The bike is in excellent condition only used 8-10 times, just got tuned up and shocks are tested fine. It also come with a life time tune up from local bike shop; I paid $400 for it. I think I got a pretty good deal. How is your experience with this bike or the Gary Fisher brand ? What can I expect from this bike ? Any riding tips ?

PS: I have been riding motorcycle for the last 8 years and survive a near fatal accident. Now i still want to be on 2 wheels but rather on a safer side.

I rode a sugar 2 for about 5 years, great bike no probs at all until the downtube snapped at the weld but after 2-3000Ks of hard out xc riding, I couldn’t complain. A mate I rode with had a sugar 3+, again a great ride, the only changes he made was to change the avids pulls to discs and changed his dukes for a little more travel. Depends on how you are going to ride but for $400 you have a great deal and a good bike. The frame should have a lifetime warranty if you have the original receipt, as I have heard of the downtube weld going on these as well.

Happy trails.

Home Electricity Systems to Save Electricity

A good way to save on your utility bill is to create your own home electricity systems. It can be a bit daunting if you are not familiar with the many options available, but for beginners, a home solar power project is easy enough. It should also be able to provide enough power to cut your bill in half. I also learned to build my own DIY electricity system cheaply using a guide that I will share more about with you.

It is best to read up on as much solar power literature as you can. Also, make sure installing these equipment is allowed. Some cities have very strict laws regarding the installation of electrical objects. Get a permit first before starting. Finally, brush up on your electrical and wiring know-how. You will need to connect the panels to your own home, so be sure you know what you are doing. To be on the safe side, call in an expert when you are about to perform the final steps of the project.

The only problem with a solar power system is that not all location can get one hundred percent efficiency from these panels. Even in the same location, obstructions such as trees or poles can be detrimental. It is therefore advisable that you look through the possible places in which to install your mounts. This will take a while, but there are some online tools that can help you with your task. To put it simply, you will be looking for an area that receives the most sunlight for the longest possible time.

While it would be easier to have an off-grid home electricity system, it would be more expensive and you would not have the back up power for emergency situations. If it’s your first time to install a solar panel, it would be best to go with a grid-tied system. This means that you will still be relying on the power from the main grid, although you will probably be only using about half of what you were using before.

Once you have determined your power requirements, it is time to purchase the materials. A single panel can give around ten kilowatt hours, so ten or twenty should be a good start. You can always add some more in the future if you still have enough space.

To convert that energy into useable power, you will need an inverter. There are many options available, but it would be best to go with the same brand as the panels. If you are working with different brands, make sure that they are compatible with each other by checking their properties.

Install the mount first. The easiest location would be on the roof, but your earlier survey will show you the best place. After the mount is securely in place, attach the railings. These will form the frames, so make sure that they are rigid. Your inverter is installed next.

The final piece of your home electricity systems is the solar panel. These will fall neatly into the railings if they were properly installed. The final part is a bit more dangerous as it involves your home’s wiring. Make sure you are familiar with this system, otherwise call in a professional to help. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY electricity system simply following a DIY guide online and would highly recommend it.
