Personally, mine are stored in a locked cabinet

that is bolted to the floor inside a locked closet. Ammo is in a smaller cabinet also bolted down.
I feel this is reasonably safe.
I was in a home today where there are children (unlike my home) where loaded guns were left in racks on the wall. There was a Marlin 60 on the table they thought was empty, but when I pulled the bolt back, I found one still in the chamber.
I find this casual treatment to be disturbing.
I came to his house with my gun locked in a case and the ammo locked in a shoulder bag. At some point I will probably have a 500 lbs safe for my stuff.
ok your buddys house is just F’d up. I would say something to him or her and if they don’t take it seriously then call CPS on them. second the safe you provided the link for is great to keep kids out of but if someone breaks into your house, kiss your guns good by. I could kick the door in on that safe easily. I have seen those at bass pro and they are flimsy sheet metal. get a better solid safe and don’t cheap out.
