For the guns that you keep in storage for a while…?
Do you take them out a couple times a year and give them a good cleaning even though they were clean before storage? I just cleaned my Glock and replaced that factory slide grease with Tetra grease. I hope it is safe on polymer! Thanks.
Firearms collectors like myself often like to buy, sell and trade guns that are “new in the box”. But I have learned a valuable lesson over the years. Cardboard boxes have a tendancy to attract humidity and moisture. I’ve had some new in the box, unfired guns that started to show signs of rust from just sitting.
Your best bet is to use some method of abslorbing any humidity that might come into contact with your firearm. I use silicagel packages that can be heated and reused after they absorb the humidity. BUT, you should also keep a light coating of oil on the metal parts to help prevent rust.
The best rust protectant I have tried is Birchwood Casey Sheath. It’s not a lube, but a pure anti-rust oil.
