Just beginning to stretch ears–can I use 18g pinchers instead of tapers?
I just recently decided to stretch my ears. I had my ears pierced about 2 years ago with a gun. I don’t ever wear heavy earrings so my lobes have barely stretched. After reading a few forums, I noticed with the smaller sizes, a lot of people have just used pinchers instead of tapers to begin stretching. I will be starting with an 18 just to be safe and I don’t understand buying tapers if I can just use the pinchers to wear and stretch with. The associate recommended I start with these http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Accessories/BodyJewelry/Pinchers/Morbid-Metals-Black-Plug-And-Pincher-Pack-212560.jsp I appreciate any advice! Thanks.
Pinchers aren’t a good idea to start stretching with because they are uneven. The pinchers and plugs you linked to are also made of acrylic, which isn’t a suitable material for newly-stretched piercings since it cannot be sterilized.
A taper and a pair of steel or titanium rings/plugs is your best option.
BAF has a great stretching guide.. follow it so you won’t screw up your lobes.
