Does it even matter trying to control humidity in my gunsafe while living in Phoenix?
The relative hunidity is generally low here doesn’t really get up to 25%. It deos get humid on occasion though and it deos actually rain here.
I was just going to stick a lightbulb in my safe bu I have also heard if the humidity is too low my guns with wood stocks can crack.
Do you have air conditioning or an evaporative cooler? An evaporative cooler can raise indoor humidity, whereas an a/c is basically a dehumidifier. You might go buy a humidity gauge, check out the indoor humidity, consider that this may be greater in an enclosed space, …then box the gauge back up and take it back for a refund. It’d give you a better idea of the actual indoor humidity situation, and help you decide if you should purchace a dessicant pack or similiar humidity control device for your safe..

Gun cases that travel securely and legally
It is every hunter’s dream to participate in a big game hunt and claim their trophy. Many western states enjoy economies with a hunting and fishing base and go out if their way to welcome hunters and sportsmen and women. Big game hunting is also a major industry in overseas economies and much attention is paid to accommodating hunter-tourists and the income they bring. The big adventure is accessible to those daring enough to grasp it.
But unless you have your own corporate jet, you will most likely be flying (The Titanic has sunk, sorry to say). TSA has very strict regulations about flying with guns. To begin with, all weaponry must be declared at check-in. Guns may not be loaded, the ammunition must be placed in fiber containers. The ammunition can be in the same hard case carrier as the gun. Locked gun cases make everyone feel much better about traveling with firearms.
A hard case container is an excellent idea if you are going to buy one. For one they are damage-resistant (baggage handlers are not all alike, sometimes they take foul shots with suitcases). Hard plastic containers are lightweight and can absorb lost of use and abuse. Metal containers are the best. Aluminum is the leading material here and its resistance to weather, bad handling, being at the bottom of a pile and being dropped is legendary. Because aluminum is a standard material for industrial shipping, your gun will also fit in visually with other business items being shipped, like cameras, lighting equipment, industrial tools etc. and less likely to be singled out by a thief.
The interior of gun cases bears the responsibility of seeing that your firearms arrive in proper working order. Covered foam pockets that can be arranged around the contours of the gun, shielding and restraining it equally are important. There is no guarantee that your carrier will stay put in that cargo bay and you don’t want the gun moving around inside the carrier. You also want to prevent dust, foul air, and sudden humidity from entering the case and creating problems. When you arrive it’s best to let your gun get acclimated gently and opening the case in a controlled environment is the best way to do this.
A case for your handgun is a wise purchase. If you are driving interstate you will be passing through some areas where your concealed carry permit will not be accepted. Not every state has reciprocity on concealed weapons. If you are stopped by police and your handgun is not secured according to that state’s laws, there will be consequences. If your handgun is secured in a locked carrying case you will be safely compliant. You can pay a fine, hire a lawyer or buy a hard case. Gun cases save you money in many ways, by ensuring your firearm remains in pristine operating condition.
