Gun safe installation?
Will the 2nd floor of my home support a 200lbs safe if I cement it in about 3″ of cement?
I don’t recommend placing the safe in “cement”. Think about how much more difficult it’s going to be for YOU to move with that on it if you decide later that you want it in a different location in your home.
The recommended procedure to secure a safe to prevent it being moved (and to prevent it from tipping over during an earthquake if you have those in your area) is to bolt it to wall studs (from the inside of the safe) using long 3/8″ diameter lag bolts. (4 to 6 of them is sufficient), then when it comes time for YOU to move it, simply remove the bolts and you’re good to go. No unnecessary added weight to deal with.
I have a dehumidifier inside my safe to prevent rust that plugs into an outlet behind it. I used 3 short pieces of 4×4 post (painted the wall color) as a spacer between the wall and the safe that the lag bolts pass through. The wood allows the safe to be bolted tight to the wall, yet still allow me access to the outlet behind it. (The outlet also powers a “Rope Light” inside of the safe that comes on automatically when the door is opened)
