I was charging my ‘screw/nail’ gun which is 6 v. Didn’t realize I was using the wrong charger.?
My nail/screw gun needed recharging. It is 6volts. I inadvertantly pulled a charger out, thinking they are all alike & it plugged into my gun & it fit perfectly. About 20 minutes later I walked into my bedroom and saw my cats looking at the outlet where I had it plugged in. I heard what they must have heard, which was a sizzling sound. My screw gun was hot to touch (and the casing had started to melt) as was the outlet & charger. I unplugged it immediately & went to get my neighbor (luckily he was home). He, at first blamed it on the aluminum wiring, but upon closer inspection, saw the charger was 12volts, not 6 like my screwgun. It was really stupid of me not to have checked more thouroughly. Now to my question…. I haven’t used this outlet…is it safe to use, say to plug in my vacuum cleaner or a lamp, or should I hire an electrician to take a look at it? Please HELP me. I know that aluminum wiring heats & cools, but could a fire start by using lamps or vacuums?
