Every Patriot – every sane person in America believes in arms control….?
…Guns are arms, so what are we quibbling about?
The issue is always over a right to bear arms, and every healthy minded person knows we should not allow our citizens the right to bear briefcase atomic bombs, personal surface to air missiles, hand-grenades, chemical weapons and a whole host of other arms. We all agree that arms control is paramount to a safe society. Gun control is simply a part of arms control – one cannot have family values without the belief in arms control and guns are arms – are we not just quibbling about the degree of control?
If the freedom of speech was under 1% of the attack and suffered 1% of the biased reporting; we’d see people shouting from the roof tops. But firearms and firearms owners are under a constant barrage of half truth and out right lies. In addition to half truths and lies; any news event that is remotely pro gun is simply not reported. Every news event that is anti gun is ran over and over and documented and talked about for days.

For instance, the NRA is portrayed as being at odds with law enforcement officers and law enforcement agencies in general by the media. But the exact opposite is the reality. Most law enforcement firearms instructors were trained at facilities by NRA sponsored individuals. Law enforcement officers in great numbers are NRS members and compete regularly in NRA shooting events. The NRA has provided legal assistance to officers they have felt were being unfairly prosecuted. NRS members often expend their own resources to assist the families of fallen officers.

Words are important. “Gun Control” is no exception. Most of the naming and spin doctoring is aimed at influencing the unaware elements of the public. Accuracy and the fair reporting of events and agendas is not even a factor. All that matters to the anti gun groups and the major news reporting agencies is the advancement of their agenda, making all firearms illegal.

Historically an armed society has been a free society. Today in this world we live in, more people are held in bondage and denied personal liberty by their own governments than is imposed by foreign invaders. We do need to be able to protect ourselves from our own government. It was the fear of centralized government that wisely inspired our fore fathers to include firearms in the Bill of Rights.

The shooting portions of the Olympics are seldom if ever given video coverage, neither live of recorded. During the coverage of an Olympics held in Japan I think, it was announced that, first American Gold Medals to be won were won by one of the Smerican shooting teams. Neither the event nor the awarding of the medals was televised, live or pre-recorded.

The Florida legislature was in the process of establishing the provisions and infrastructure to support the legalization of concealed weapons permits to individuals meeting very strictly controlled and rigors requirements. The media went into a frenzy reporting what disaster private citizens with concealed weapons would bring into the state.

Several years have passed. Thousand of permits have been issued to individuals who’ve taken mandatory, training, rigors screening and through back ground checks at their own expense. No epidemic of shootings has occurred. In fact in the shootings where individuals carrying legal concealed weapons with the necessary permits have been involved the percentage of these shootings that have been ruled justified is actually slightly better than the justified percentages for law enforcement officers in the state.
None of this has made the main stream media.

Everyday, courageous individuals use firearms to save their own lives, the lives of others and often come to the aid of law enforcement officers in desperate situations. These events are not carried by the mainstream media either.

But let one disturbed individual go crazy in a environment were the private citizens are not equipped to protect themselves and others; and the media goes into a feeding frenzy.
By the way, several potential Columbine type events have been adverted be private citizens getting to the right place quick enough to make a difference. Most of these preventions have been executed without any loss of life. Yes, you will not see these on the evening news either.
