Revised:Mandatory you report a destroyed gun in CA ?
I lived in AZ and purchased a gun that I regretted, Impulse buy because I had a friend who convinced me. I hated the GUN. The time came to relocate to CA, and I didnt want to be responsible for any fee’s much less having a HAND GUN in my possession and so I destroyed the gun before moving. I cut the handle, because its made of plastic (ruger p95) and threw the internal parts away. How can I legally get this gun out of my name, or at least the record?
I destroyed the gun BUT kept the evidence, the handle is the part with the Serial Number and I have that in Safe….I do have the top portion…….but internal pieces are trashed.
DID I NEED TO REGISTER THE GUN? EVEN IF DESTROYED IT? IN THOSE 60 DAYS OF RELOCATION ? AND IF I HAVE GONE PAST THOSE 60 DAYS AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LEGALITIES EVEN IF IT WAS DESTROYED AND NOT REPORTED?
OR IS IT BEST, SINCE ITS DESTROYED, AND NOW A CALIFORNIA RESIDENT WITH A GUN (destroyed) REGISTERED IN AZ, BEST TOO JUST MOVE ON?
Go to the local police or sheriffs office tell them what happen so they can write a report and take it out of the system. You will have nothing to worry about legally.
