Police/Proffesional advise for buying stun guns please?
Alright, so I have minor situation with agoraphobia(fear of travel, etc.) But in order to really feel ok and safe with traveling to a place in another state with my boyfriend, I want protection. At first I wanted a taser gun, then read up on it, and saw the prices, so I think a stun gun is more appropriate, especially pricewise.
But I don’t know if I’m buying something legitimate or not.

I have several problems with stun guns. First, you have to make contact, that means no distance. As soon as you lose contact, you lose the effect. That means it only works when you are in direct contact with your attacker. The more distance the better.
Stun guns do not incapacitate someone like a taser would. Stun guns have fixed probes, so they only cause pain at the point of contact. A taser has probes that separate, so it can actually lock up muscles, which gives you time to escape.
The other problem with the stun gun is it only works on one person at a time. It is worthlesss if you have multiple attackers.
Pepper spray is not perfect either, but it does allow you to keep your distance and you can use it on mulitple attackers. That would be my choice if it is legal in your area.

How to Enjoy Airsoft Safely
Handling an Airsoft gun appropriately is incredibly important. Anybody engaging in the sport must take the necessary steps to ensure it is enjoyed safely. Parents must especially explain the seriousness of the sport and advocate that their children be responsible. This is not to discourage the activity but, rather arm each of you with some of the facts.

1. Using the proper gear is not an option, its the rule – Though the plastic pellets fired by an Airsoft gun travel too slowly to do fatal damage or break through skin (unless highly modified), they are certainly capable of causing bruises. With that said, it is important that you wear the correct protection. Long pants and long sleeved shirts should be worn during. It is especially important to wear goggles. Eyeglasses or sunglasses are not sufficient. Instead, seek out paintball goggles or those with similar specs that wrap around the head or come attached to a helmet. Ear guards are also recommended to protect against hearing impairment.
2. Airsofts look real – Make no mistake, this is for all accounts a real firearm and should be treated as such. Some Airsoft guns are made from molds of the real version. However, modifications are made so that the gun will perform in sport and can be easily distinguished. (Note: Real guns will bear the manufactures trademark or insignia) In any case, they should not be carried out of the context of the sport or be brandished in a public setting. This can lead to public disruption and/or trouble with law enforcement. Just use common sense.
3. Keep your Airsoft in a case – When your gun is not in use it should be kept in a gun case. Legally this is the only way to transport an Airsoft. Aside from being the safest way to contain your gun, a case provides the best protection for its fragile parts. The case is also a convenient place to house extra parts like magazine clips. Your gun should be kept empty when stored and treated as if it were loaded.
With the proper safety precautions and responsible handling, Airsoft can be an extremely enjoyable activity. Have fun and play hard!
