Hide Rock Safes
Is this substrate ok for my corn snake?
I want to make a natural vivarium subsrate for my corn snake. She is fully grown at 4ft.
Can i use a thin layer of rocks/gravel (safe fish gravel so i know theres no dirt or paracites)
On top of that orchid bark (dried out)
Some dried out moss and maybe some aspen bedding here and there.
Also some real leaves (off trees) that will be sterilised by being cooked in a oven before adding.(will this be safe?)
This will be teamed with wood pieces for hides, fake plants, rocks and branches.
I do not care if this will be hard to clean i want as close to nature as possible as i do for my fish and frogs. She is not fed in her cage she is fed in a feeding box.
I applaud your desire to provide a naturalistic vivarium but strongly encourage you to do more research on the subject. There are pros and cons associated with this type of environment and you need to make sure you understand all of them.
