The Safest Place is an amusing vintage corporate promotional video sponsored by Chevrolet. Chevy maintains that the company’s new 1935 models are “the safest place” any person could be. To illustrate this point, a man at home comically slips on a bar of soap in his bathtub and almost wipes out, and later tries to straighten a crooked picture on his wall and almost falls to his death. The point was…

Tire pressure and fuel economy, should i go by the car’s manual or the tire maker’s recommended psi?

My car manual recommends 30 psi and the tire maker has 44 psi on it. So far i kept to 30 psi and my car doesnt have great fuel economy, averaging 17 mpg in city and 23 highway; but now i am hear that increasing the pressure will greatly boost my fuel economy…is this safe? and what pressure between 30 and 44 would achieve a good balance of fuel economy without sacrificing safety?

im a old tire guy and since the 70′s ive been running 5 pounds more and ive never had any problem with any of mine….. but really the max is better but it really depend on the car too cause tire are made for many types so it really up to you to watch how they wear…. i run 45 in all mine and 30 pounds is low for any car tire its never been 30 and your not going to get a lot of mileage but it does help….. check them monthly in the winter and sure 44 is just fine,,, good yr trained and still changing tires…. road service truck and tractors thro i still get a car every once in a while

Five Reasons why you should buy a European Car?

This is a decision which must be taken slowly and after doing some research on the available options. Buying a car, any car is an important decision which may affect your family and will definitely affect your pocket and budget. Some people will decide based on horse power, others on fuel consumption and yet others on safety. There are several possibilities available and they all have their advantages and disadvantages.

American cars are powerful and strong, they are built for the highways, long endless miles one after the other. Comfortable and spacey for long trips and company, the only problem they have is that they use too much petrol. Americans like their comfort and room so they make their suspensions soft and bouncy, this is true even in their off road vehicles, they are not tough enough.

The second option on the line is the Asian cars, they are like flies, and you will find one wherever you look. They are not as large as the Americans but they are large enough. Fuel is not a problem either; some are good eaters others are not. The problem with Asian cars is that they are not built to last, after three or four years of city use they make all kinds of strange noises and pieces start to fall off, just imagine what they sound like after three or four years out in the country.

This leads us to our last option which is European cars, there are several brands available and many different models, one for each need and desire. The first reason why a person would buy a European car is because they are built to last forever. When you buy a new European car you will be pleasantly surprised when the salesperson explains the engine warranty and the gear box warranty your car has. They are amazing and they cover many aspects and parts of the car American and Asian warranties do not cover.

European highways are designed for people to drive at high speeds, above one hundred miles per hour that is going very fast. Their cars are built to withstand crashes at those speeds. There are several European brands that have received many global awards for their safety records and protective devices. These cars are not built with tin that can be dented with a bicycle or a little car to car physical contact. These new cars are built to withstand great impact, the car may be useless after the crash but the people in it will walk away. Roof protection, door protection, chassis reinforcements all these features are there.

They are not only safe to drive and to ride in but they are comfortable too. Motor designs are small but very powerful and they always take into account fuel economy but without disregarding horse power. European cars are among the fastest yet safest cars. The same goes for their off road models, they are very comfortable yet strong and reliable when it comes to mountain climbing or driving through the desert. The best word to describe European cars is reliable, they are the best in what they have been designed to do.

Contrary to popular opinion or belief, they are not expensive. They are well within the same price range as the American and Asian cars. They may be a bit more expensive but the security, reliability and durability they offer well compensates a few dollars over the competition’s price. When the day is over and it is time to change it, it is possible to get a good price on a European car that has been well cared for. People appreciate their strength and they recognize the names that have made history in the automotive world.
