How safe am I living in a previous IT PRO home owner?
I am going to be moving into a used home. The house is setup with multiple cable wires from a closet and the upstairs has a huge LAN setup for multiple computers (multiple CAT5 ports and 12 port power strips). We found out from neighbors, the previous owner was into computers, networks, etc. I would like to assume the worse and think he is into hacking also. So with this background provided:
Will he be able to trace any of his old IPs from the house im moving in to hack into my computers/internet/entire system?
If so, what are the best safe precautions that i can do to prevent any infiltration by him or anyone?

There were also atleast 20 different cable coax lines coming from the closet. any ideas on what that was used for?
Well unless you use his old wireless hardware your good. Unless he has a regular router and RJ45 jacks outside he has no access. Get some motion lights outside or disable the outside RJ45′s if there are any. Also there is no reason to fear an attack, he cant find you unless he knows your SSID.
Basically the prior owner needs to do allot of setup and research before he could find your new network and attack you. Use WPA encryption on your wireless if you use it and your good. And change your locks. I would be more worried about someone that already knew who lived there and they had computers, and them not realizing theirs a new person there now.
Lastly, not everyone is a hacker. Its like saying “Your a mechanic I bet you own a chop shop, and steal cars!”
