is it OK to carry the laptop around while it’s is still on sleep mode?
My brother walk everywhere with his laptop from home to school and work, but he never turn off the laptop. He turn to sleep mode and consider it safe while carrying/moving it around! His argument is that sleep is on low powered mode so it doesn’t matter. I think his new laptop won’t last long, anyone agree?
Carrying in sleep mode is ok, hard disk is shut down, battery useage is low etc. I’ve done this to my laptop a couple of times due to closing it before shutdown complete, and been most surprised when it resumes then says continuing shutdown.
Longest I woke it after was 5 days in my luggage.
One time I did the same when battery was low and two days later when i went to start up and it went to run check disk and all sorts.
Teach him Fn+F12, suspend to disk, takes 30 secs to wake it up, uses no power and leaves all your windows where you left them. ok if you’ve changed wireless networks it takes a little longer.
Also my laptop, even on full power detects excessive vibration and shuts of the hard disk as appropriate, before I’d sorted it out I had it on the passanger seat live and open, then braked hard, it went from 30mph on the seat to slightlty backwards in the seat well very rapidly, but auto shut down the hard disk and is still fine a year later as i type this on it.
