What is the smallest, safest infant car seat?
I have a 2007 Subaru Forester. I currently have a toddler in a Britax Boulevard which fits fine in my back seat, whether he is on either side or in the middle. However we have baby #2 coming in the next few months and tried the Britax Companion in the backseat. Unfortunately this requires the front seat to be pulled all the way forward. This is not exactly safe or comfortable for anyone in front of that seat. Does anyone know of a shorter/smaller infant car seat that will fit better so someone can actually sit in the front seat? I really can’t afford to go out and buy a new car for a new baby. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
T1he chaperone takes up the most space front to back for an infant carrier, and the boulevard will take up a lot of room when reclined to the 45 degrees required for a newborn.
You might consider the Combi Coccoro; a convertible that rear faces to 33 pounds and forward faces to 40 pounds and it fits newborns well. The newborn recline is achieved with the infant insert so it is very short front to back.
If you’re not interested in a convertible, nearly any infant seat will fit better than the chaperone, but evenflo requires the handle to be down and 1 1/2 inches between the handle and the seat in front of it, so you should skip those. I’d also make sure you get one with a front adjust harness.
The boulevard also doesn’t fit newborns well as it’s lower slots are tall.
When your second baby has outgrown his/her car seat you can pass down the marathon to him/her and buy a forward facing seat that converts to a booster for your toddler.
