Cheapest/Safest/Easiest way to get into NYC for a weekday?
Going to see Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, possible Grand Central Station, etc. – areas south of Central Park. For cost and convenience, it seems to make sense to stay in New Jersey and ride transit.
I’m looking for advice & suggestions on where it would make sense to stay in NJ to get into NYC without too much cost or hassle. i.e. I would rather have as few transfers/train switches as possible to dink around with.
If there is a better way to do what I’m trying, let me know.

Linden, NJ has a nice hotel, Hampton Inn. Its a 2 minute drive to the NJ Transit train station and a straight ride into Penn Station The very last stop, dont do what my sister did and get off at “Newark Penn Station”. It’ll cost you, 4 dollars to park and 12 round trip train tickets…then buy an unlimited metro day pass for 7 buck in penn station. And go where ever you like.
