Learn How the Internet can Connect you To Antique Auctions Online

If you are an avid collector, chances are you have signed up with a number of auction houses and routinely get their catalogues by mail.  Did you know that you can also find antique auctions online?  It’s true.  There are many auctions that are held online simultaneously, and that means that you can gain access to auctions you haven’t been able to attend before.

How it Works

Not surprisingly, auction houses and sellers want to present their collections to the largest audience possible and the Internet allows them to do just that.  Not only do they get to tap their local regulars, they also get to access buyers that may live far away or simply can’t get away at the time of the auction.  In order to connect with as many collectors as possible, they conduct live auctions online.

To present the collection to those individuals who may not already be part of their network, they post online catalogues with specific auction houses which specialize in Internet events.  To access these catalogues, you need only sign up with an auction house of your choice that participates in this practice.

Live Bidding Online

Just because you are looking at an online catalogue, doesn’t mean you don’t get to actually participate in the auction, wherever it may be held.  Once you have registered with your auction house and received permission to participate in a particular event, you stream the auction live on your computer and place your bids as you would if you were sitting on the auction house floor.  Your bids are included in the process, and you don’t even have to be present.

What Happens if You Win

If you are fortunate enough to place the winning bid, things progress much as they would if you were in attendance.  You pay for your item, plus your bidder’s premium, and then make arrangements for shipping.  You would normally ship any item that was too large to carry anyway, and auctioneers are accustomed to make shipping arrangements that will bring your newly acquired treasure to you safely.

If You Can’t Be There

As with traditional auctions, if you can’t attend an auction live, online, then you have the option of placing an absentee bid instead.  You make the regular arrangements to bid in a particular event, place the maximum bid you want to place on an item, and go about your business as usual.  If you win the auction, you will be informed via email and can make arrangements to complete payment and shipment of your item.  Quick, painless and convenient, absentee bidding is an easy way to stake your claim without having to disrupt your schedule.

Antiques are Unique

Because, by definition, antiques are rare, being able to participate in a larger number of auctions will increase your chances of obtaining the items you really want.  You won’t have to travel and waste your time on the road only to lose the auction to someone with deeper pockets, and the money you save by not traveling you can use to increase your bid if you so desire.

Antique auctions online are wonderful ways to acquire those unique pieces you have always wanted for your collection.
