Will scratched triply Calphalon stainless steel cookware be ok to use? Will the metal leach into the food?
I just bought the stainless steel set to replace my old anodized set. I’ve never used stainless steel before. I followed all the recommendations by Calphalon, but I still ended up with burnt grilled cheese toast on the pan. I can’t get the black stains out, so I used steel wool before i found out this is a no-no. After about a few minutes of scrubbing, I realized that it scratched the surface. Is my pan now deemed useless? I’ve read conflicting info online. One site says that a scratched surface causes metal leaching into the food which is not good for your health. Another says that the scratched surface shouldn’t affect the overall performance of the pan, just the looks of it (which I don’t care about, as long as it’s safe and useful). Which one is true?
Stainless steel is about as unreactive as glass at common cooking temperatures. The scratches possibly made by your standard kitchen steelwool cleansing pad are insignificant and I don’t think the pan’ll give you any problems at all ‘leaching’ solid stainless steel into your cheese sammies.
Have you EVER known of someone whose really been troubled by side effects of using ANY KIND of modern cookware?
Seems like a pretty trite concern, comparatively speaking.
I wouldn’t deem you new pan useless…
