Olive Oil For Lice Treatment – Safe and Effective Natural Remedy
How effective and safe is using olive oil for lice treatment? Does it really work properly? Let me answer these questions for you in this article.
A lice infestation may not be a serious condition, but it can be very annoying to the person affected. These pests can spread quickly, from one person to another, through head-to-head contact. Head lice survive by feeding on human blood, which they get from the scalp of their host. This makes the scalp constantly itch, and then small red bumps appear. If you have any of these symptoms, then you are probably infested with head lice. If so, you will notice nits, or lice eggs, stuck to your hair shaft. Nits are sometimes white in color and can be mistaken for dandruff flakes. The only difference is that dandruff will fall off easily by shaking the hair. Nits cling into the hair strands and are hard to remove.
Using olive oil for lice treatment can be very effective. To do so, apply any ordinary olive oil to your hair and massage your hair and scalp. After that, wrap the hair with a plastic bag or a plastic shower cap. Leave the hair soaked in olive oil overnight and wash it off the following morning with an ordinary shampoo. Next, wash your hair with apple cider vinegar. This will help to remove the oil. It will also dissolve the gluey substance that is enabling the nits to stick to the hair, making them easier to remove.
After washing the hair, use an ordinary comb to remove the tangles. Comb the hair while it is wet to make it easier for you to remove the tangles. Divide your hair into sections. Then, use a nits comb to remove dead lice and nits from the hair. To be able to effectively use olive oil for lice treatment, you may need to repeat the same procedure until all lice are eliminated.
Besides olive oil for lice treatment, there are other effective natural home remedies available, as well. These include other essential oils, such as coconut oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, rosemary oil, lavender oil, oil of neem and tea tree oil. Also, you may use apple cider vinegar, mayonnaise, butter and petroleum jelly to treat an infestation. An electronic nits comb, as well as an ordinary nits comb, can also be helpful.
If you are not comfortable with, or do not believe in, using any of these natural home remedies, you also can try over-the-counter medications. But, these medications are not recommended. Most contain harsh chemicals, which may be harmful to the health of your child. Treatment of lice in children should be supervised by a pediatrician, first. Children have sensitive skin and may be sensitive to the harsh chemicals contained in these products.
Personally, I strongly believe in natural home remedies, as I have seen their effectiveness firsthand. I have found that using olive oil, for lice treatment, can be a safe, effective and inexpensive alternative remedy for removing lice and nits.
