What do you do about asbestos siding?
Our house was built in 1950 and has asbestos siding. We never demolished, torn, sanded, or broke any part of our siding. It is in tact and has not been replaced or removed. The only thing that was ever done to it was it was repainted a few years ago. If we do not touch it and leave it as it has been, is it safe to live here?
as long as the siding remains whole it will be safe for another 50 years or so.But if it worries you you can contact siding companies in the area to see if they do removal of asbestos. It is very expensive due to the need for special permits and the need to find a proper disposal site once removed. There will also be daily inspections to make sure everything is going as planned.A 1200 sq ft home can take as long as a month to remove the siding. This is to ensure that nothing harmful is left behind or escapes into the environment.but once the old is off it would only take three or four days to put new vinyl siding on.
