can a car get hot enough in the summer to make ammo go off?
due to where I work I have to leave my revolver in my car because of company regulations. I lock it in a steel safe bolted down to the floor in my explorer so it doesn’t get stolen. If I leave my windows up during a very hot summer day could the ammunition in the gun go off?
Paper and cellulose will spontaniously combust at about 410 degress F. When the day comes your steering wheel melts and the maps catch on fire all by themselves – I think you will have bigger things to worry about than the ammo going off.
That said – heat is not good for ammo. All powder has a small amount of moisture and light oils in it. When this gets ‘cooked off’ due to heat the powder becomes fragile – and the individual grains will crack and break – especially when handled while in this condition. Break enough of the flakes (pistol + shotgun powder) or rods (large rifle powder) and you no longer have a slow buring smokeless powder – you have dust that will all burn at once (exploded). This is one major reason you find ball powder in all military rifle loads – it is much less succeptable to this.
Just as heat is bad for ammo – so is extreme cold. Different principles – but the results are the same as above.
I have the same company policy. I keep the gun in my car – but the magazines are in my lunch box.
Great question.

Benefits Of Having Panic Bolts
Over the years, different fire preventive and fire fighting measures have been invented and conceptualized. These measures and mechanisms have only one thing in common, which is their goal of preventing fire from being a further threat to most people. However, most of the time people are do not have an extensive knowledge regarding the different mechanisms and perhaps the equipments being used to either prevent or fight fire. If asked, people may generally know what fire extinguishers are, or maybe fire alarm systems. However, equipment such as a panic bolt may all very well be new to them.
Basically, panic bolts, oftentimes called as panic bars, are bars which cover emergency exit doors from the interior. Such an ingenious invention has two main purposes. One, it prevents the entrance of unwanted parties during the day and night. Such a design ensures a certain work place that it is safe from intrusion even after work hours. Panic bolts in general can protect a building from crimes such as burglary. Two, panic bolts, when enough pressure is applied on it, releases the emergency exit door and allows the occupants of the building a safe and quick evacuation.
Having panic bolts latched to your emergency exits is a very good investment. However, purchasing such protective equipment may not as easily as perceived. Much effort must be given, especially by the building owner, to finding the right panic bolt for his or her work place. Having a panic bolt in your work place must give you the assurance that it will definitely be of great advantage when the need arises. Having a panic bolt that does otherwise, and poses even more challenging circumstances for you, must definitely come from poor assessment of your true need. The purpose of having a panic bolt is letting people exit safely from your business place. However, if it hinders them from doing so, it then becomes more of a liability than an asset.
An apparent purpose of the panic bolt is decreasing the panic within your work force in case a fire incident occurs. Panic is the immediate and most common reaction people would feel when introduced with an unpleasant incident such as fire. Even when your employees have practiced a number of times how to handle such event like the proper way to exit during fire, or the proper tool to use to extinguish fire, more often than not, they panic during the actual event.
Having a panic bolt in your work place is definitely an effective way to guide your employees to safety when fire breaks out in your building. Moreover, it will protect your building from any unwanted entries even during the night. Purchasing the most suited panic bolt for your business establishment is definitely a wise choice in further ensuring your work place as a safe environment for its occupants. Having an extensive knowledge on the different brands and also the different makeup of the panic bolts can guide you in your pursuit of purchasing one for your business.
