A lot safer than water in third world countries.Most of the cities on that list have taste and odor problems due to the climate.Florida has problems with the Atlantic ocean getting into it’s well water,making it too salty.Texas and Nevada are mostly desert,so the soil is high in alkali.California has both desert and salt water problems at the same time.The cities each have different methods of treating the water,but all must meet the minimums of the Federal Clean Water act of 1971; amended in 1980 and 1996,and the different State Water laws that preceded it.As part of that act I had to pass 3 classes of state license exams to treat sewage.It takes a separate license to treat drinking water and the standards are even higher.Our state water association has donated equipment to Nicaragua to start a basic water treatment system and trained people to run it.Federal law requires a bacteria count,and testing for residue in the water,including heavy metals such as lead,Zinc and Cadmium which can leach into groundwater from toxic wastes buried in landfills.
