How would a black American women be treated in Ireland?
I want to bring my best friend with me when I travel to Ireland before starting my studies in England but am concerned for her safety. In the US she and I travel everywhere but I have heard there has been a rise in race crimes in Ireland and I don’t want us to be faced with ignorant hatred. Plus being two females traveling alone is already risky. Any insight on where the safe places of Ireland are and where we will not face any trouble would be greatly received.
Probably better than in the US. Racism seems to be a constant undertone in the States. We don’t have black ghettos here in Ireland as exist in the States, we do have deprived areas but not based on skin colour, it’s based on economics. You could encounter prejudice anywhere. Ireland, England, Japan, Turkmenistan……but generally Irish people are warm and welcoming to guests. Two females traveling alone in Ireland isn’t particularly risky…..but that’s a misnomer as you aren’t “alone” if theres two of you!
