Can a kitten escape from a baby play yard?

I have decided to keep my new kitten in the kitchen when we first get him next week – it is the safest room for him (nothing to get into and no place to get stuck or hide except under the table)….except that there are 3 open doorways there, with no doors. I’m considering getting one of those baby/pet play yards, would a kitten be able to get out of that?? He’s going on 9 weeks. If so…can anyone recommend a good baby gate for a kitten? I’m afraid he’d be able to climb over any of them (or the play yard) – is he [hopefully] too young to get that high yet? I’m not anticipating having to keep him confined for too very long, but at least the first few days/week. Any suggestions on which would be better, or what brands/types of gate or yard to use?? Thanks!!
PS I don’t mean a baby playpen, but those portable things that basically look like 6 doorway gates put together in a circular shape to make the play yard…they do sell them for pets as well, but they are all the same thing…

Why not keep him in your bedroom instead? That way he’ll be with you at night and be able to bond with you. Leaving him alone in a cold kitchen sounds pretty sad.

I have no idea what a baby play yard is so can’t answer your question. I have a clear gate from Lowe’s to keep my ferrets out of my kitchen but my cats can easily jump it. I don’t think a little kitten could make it over it, though.
