When it comes to safety ratings in a family vehicle, the numbers can make or break a sale. That’s why your Acura San Mateo dealer is excited about the latest crash test ratings received from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
A new 5-Star Safety Ratings system has made it more difficult for all vehicles to achieve the scores they were previously getting, but it’s looking better for many models with the latest round of testing. The Acura MDX certainly performed admirably.
The NHTSA will rate 24 passenger cars, two vans, 20 SUVs and nine pickups during the first year of testing under the new system. With only some of the models tested so far, only the Honda Accord has received five stars in all categories. In the group where the Acura MDX was testes, the Chevy Cruze and XC60 had the best score with five stars for front, side and overall and four stars for the rollover test.

Because the system is rated differently, not all the high performers from last year’s ranking will receive the highest possible score this year. But most auto makers take this as an opportunity to refine their models and receive a higher score with the next round of testing.
