Safest Banks 2010

Aww man, I’ve just become a victim of credit card fraud?

Four separate payments of 39.95 USD were charged to my account on tuesday 13/07/2010. I checked my online statement this morning to find them, and my jaw dropped… I had been charged by a company called GroupSupport.com, a (probably pseudo) consultancy organisation. So I rang my bank and they are working on it. But my main concern is my computer. It’s the only gateway for a fraudster to get my bank details, since I keep them safe at all times. So I want to reformat my 1TB hard drive and reinstall windows 7 to ensure that all malicious files and trojans are completely removed. But I am wondering… Can I transfer all the files I want to an external drive then put them on the computer once its reformatted? Or can these files be infected by a trojan dropper?

Reinstalling windows is overkill.
1) Delete ALL executable files you have downloaded.
2) Get Process Explorer (See link below) and run it.
3) Figure out which process is the Trojan (can use google to verify each one)
4) It will tell you where it is running from (won’t be the original file), write the files location down.
5) Kill the process
6) Start –> Run –> type “regedit”
7) Ctrl+F and search for “runonce” with the search set to keys
8) Just above RunOnce should be Run click on it, this will list all things that run when your computer starts up and what file it runs
9) Check the entries against the what you wrote down in step 4, delete the one that matches
10) The find the file from step 4 and delete it.

Just be careful with the registry editing bit, screwing with other parts of it will screw up your computer and I would continue to monitor your account closely.

Just thought it would be nice to offer you some alternative solutions.
