Help on choosing first used car!?
I am a student current in grade 11 and will be graduating in 2011. I am saving to buy my first car during the summer before I head off to university. I am looking at cars/suvs in the price range of $6 000 – $12 000. I am live in Canada, therefore the road are slippery in the winter time, and I will be traveling at least 4 hours to university. I love Mini Coopers, and would love to get one of those. However, I am recently been looking at Land Rover Freelanders. I could get one with 4WD and theres much more space!
So, what kind of car/suv do you guys think I should get? Are Mini Coopers reliable and safe for a teen? How about LR Freelanders, are they reliable? And give me suggestions! As you can probably tell, I am looking for something mid-luxury with leather and heated seats!
Thanks so much for reading my question!
Hi there-I don’t really have a lot of help to offer, but just had to put down that I am in the exact same boat as you and your question kind of freaked me out because it could have been written by me. I’m also Canadian and have been researching into getting a used small car or even small SUV and that’s my exact price range I’ve been searching within, also looking for mid-luxury…only difference is I just finished college, not high school.
I don’t know much at this point, well, because I’m in the same boat as you, but, when I’ve been talking to family and friends they have all been mentioning honda because of quality, longevity and it can handle all the mileage you will likely build up quickly with that commute to university. While all cars lose value after 100,000km, a Honda will keep going strong past 200,000 and 300,000, while other models would be in the graveyard before they could ever get to that point. If you do want to sell and upgrade in the future, a Honda is a good investment that should give you good return, or if you want to drive it into the ground, it’s a car that can handle it.
Hope this helped a little, and didn’t just waste your time!
