How to put out a small oven fire (it’s electric, not gas)?
I was making my niece some pizza rolls for lunch at her house and their oven caught on fire due to the ridiculous amount of grease in the bottom of it. I read that I just had to turn off the oven and close the door. But the fire has been going for about ten minutes since I turned off the oven. It’s small now, but I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want the fire department to have to come out if they don’t have to, especially for such a small fire!
Should I just keep checking on it? I mean…it IS getting smaller. When will it be safe to open the oven again?
By the way, this is an ELECTRIC range, not a gas one
Now twenty minutes later it’s still going, but still very small. They have foil at the bottom to catch grease and that’s what it’s burning on…If I open the oven, won’t it give it more air to burn? And I don’t have any baking soda!
She lives in an apartment…Is there a way to cut the electricity besides just turning the thing off?
call the fire dept. that is what they are there for. they would much rather deal with the small oven fire than to have the whole building go up.
