Being safe and living in an apartment complex?
to get to the point i am a small female not very strong and i come home late at nights where i have to park and walk steps just to get toy front door…its in a public complex where many people live. I dont know any of them, crime in the area around it is high, and i have researched to find more than one sex offender lives within 2 miles of me. Aside from physical strength and defense which i dont really know much of, what can i do to avoid being targeted if there is a way. Is there anything i can have on me not so violent but for protective reasons.I just want to be safe and i feel like because of where i live if anyone wanted to do me harm they could study my pattern o travel and plan soemthing. Maybe im paranoid but id much rater be safe. Thank you
Try to vary you daily patterns so that a person couldn’t study your routine.
Carry pepper spray.*
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Keep your car locked until you are ready to get out and look around the area between your car and apartment before getting out. The same goes for walking to your car. Don’t unlock it by remote until you are within steps of getting in.
Carry a whistle.
If you are attacked, yell “FIRE!” people are more likely to react to that than “Help”(unfortunately).
Get to know your neighbors if at all possible. Look alert.
Keep your cellphone handy, but don’t be on while walking to and from your car. You need to be paying attention to your surroundings, not your phone.
