Unfinished cast iron should not be placed in the dishwasher, and while it may need to be lightly coated before use, it can be soaked for a few minutes to help dissolve any food that might have stuck on during use. It is not recommended to soak it for extended periods though.

The lids are generally very versatile, going from a skillet to a wok to right into the oven.
