My son has bad allergies but really wants a dog???
My three and a half year old has super bad allergies but really wants a dog. Is there a breed that does trigger allergies easily? Plus would it be safe to get a dog when Im going to be having twins sometime in the next couple months. They will be small and there immune systems wont be very strong. Help Please!
Actually, recent studies show that children with pets in the home are actually LESS likely to develop allergies. The constant stimulation of their immune systems actually helps make their immune systems stronger and develop better!
That being said, a non-shedding dog such as a poodle or bichon-frise would probably be the best. They are not completely hypoallergenic, but tend to cause less of a reaction than those types of dogs that shed *a lot* of fur.
More important that allergies, though, is whether or not you are going to be up to taking care of a puppy when you have young twins! At three and a half, your son is still not mature enough to be 100% responsible for a dog on his own, which means you and/or dad are going to have to take care of it. I also have twins, and my oldest daughter was about three and a half when her baby sisters were born, and I’m telling you – that first year is HARD. It might be better to either wait until the twins are a little older, or look for a dog that is already house-broken, etc. – just to make it a little easier on yourself!
