Where is best So-Cal neighborhood for film-school grads to relocate?
I’m about to graduate from film school, and I’m reloacting to Southern California in a few months to pursue work.
I want to be reasonably close to the studios, as L.A. traffic is (I’m told) a nightmare, but I also want to be in a good neighborhood, where I can be reasonably safe, but not be eaten alive by the rent. I am likely bringing 3 other people with me, so as long as rent in a particular area is in the neighborhood of 1,600/month or less (400 each) that is doable.
For starters there isn’t ANY filming going on until SAG settles its strike with the studio exec’s. Los Angeles is one of the most expensive and highly taxed areas in the country. That is why much of the film and television business is done in other parts of the country, not in L.A. They just have their offices here. Look at the ending credits of many of your favorite programs. You will probably see “Filmed on location in Vancouver, British Colombia”.
