Is it safe to carry 4 tires on the roof rack of my SUV?

I’ll be making a long road trip requiring me to take my all-seasons with me while I’ve got my winter tires on. The trip will be mostly on highway at high speeds, and I’m concerned about hauling tires on the roof. Is it safe? Is weight shift (or center of gravity) and issue? Can they be stacked, like 2 in the front and 2 behind?

Make sure they are tied down realllly tight, a ratchet strap for each tire would be best, just as long as you don’t break your roof rack while doing it. That will prevent weight shift. Don’t stack them. Center of gravity isn’t much of an issue, so long as you don’t drive a monster truck. Don’t play “Good ol’ boys” while you are driving either, it may give you ideas.
